Fall Break :)

These past 4 days have been a great, stress-free (for the most part) break.  Joanne and I spent our break shopping!  Lots and lots of shopping - I think I spent my last 2 paychecks on clothes...but definitely well worth it, since I never get to do stuff like that while at school.  I bought some dresses, shoes (I found pink nice dressy shoes for $2...I think that's someone's net loss), a jump rope (for my cardio workouts), jewelry and some other random stuff.

Joanne and I also worked out over the break!  We jump roped...which is hilarious...made me feel like a kid again.  We also walked around her block and pushed the buttons on the tv remote! :)  Did you catch that?  We rented and watched "Ms. Henderson" which I 100% recommend to absolutely everyone!  Judi Dench makes the movie!  I can't tell you how funny this movie is...I laughed so hard I think I had full-on abs by the end.

Oh!  I must tell you!  Joanne has two cats, Tigger and Tiger (one has only 3 legs...still cute though) and a bird.  And this is no ordinary bird....it "meows".  I've never laughed so hard.  The bird says lots of other things like "hello" and "goodbye", but that cat meow honestly got me every time.

Well enough with the procrastinating, it's Sunday night and I need to do homework - wish me luck!

Last Day Before Fall Break

Well...you'll never believe this...I woke up at 8 am..voluntarily!!! That's right, my friend Joanne and I developed a work out plan...and it's going to work!  We went to the gym this morning for an hour...we did cardio, crunches, thighs...more cardio, you name it!!  And good thing I was too tired to complain :)  I was definitely happy with myself because I felt refreshed and I ate healthy all day because of it too!  I ate a banana, strawberry yogurt and water for breakfast and then a grilled chicked sandwich with provolone for lunch!! A-mazing!

After classes were over I packed my bags and went with Joanne for a "vacation" to Fort Mill, SC!!  It's going to be great to have a break from school...

 Until next time...

Oh Happy Days!

So if you couldn't tell by now, my life revolves around basketball at the Strom.  It's my happy place!!  And Monday night, it was Amazing!!  So in general, I'll spend 3 hours there...usually because I'll play a few, lose a game, and then have to wait in this endless cycle for another game.  But this was definitely not the case on Monday!! I went there for 2 hours...and won 7 games straight - undefeatable!!!  Absolutely incredible, mark it on your calendar kind of day.  The best part was that we weren't even a tall team!! I'm 5'7" and I was the 2nd tallest person on my team!! We proved that defense wins games!  Talk about some crazy motivation and having something to prove.

And I will definitely not forget the 6th game.  We were playing against a team of guys that I didn't know!! This is pretty rare, but to my advantage.  The guy that was "guarding" me apparently didn't believe in guarding a girl because I made 5 points that game!! And at the 11th point (we're playing to 12) he says "I've got you locked down".  I smile and laugh because I've already made my buckets for the game.  And it's even funnier, because earlier in the game he said his team was going to give us our first loss of the night :)  I'm not going to lie...I was a lil cocky at the end of the game...but I didn't let my head explode or anything.

Well I'm about to go to the gym as we speak, so hopefully today will be up to par!!

Duty Weekend = Words of Advice

Oh the joys of being an RA = sometimes having to be perceived as the bad guy.  This past weekend I was "on duty" which meant that I had to do rounds of each floor 3 times throughout the night and enforce policy.  Unfortunately, some residents choose to make bad decisions.  So here's my word of advice for incoming college students: (1) Know who the RAs in your building are so you don't do stupid things right in front of them...you'd be astonished by the things residents talk about/do right in front of RAs (2) Don't drink with the door open...easiest way to get caught  (3) Don't play your music loudly...especially after quiet hours  (4) Don't sneak people up the stairs and make sure your friends always have their IDs with them so you can just check them in (5) Always escort your guests...it's really not that difficult...I mean c'mon they're there to visit you!  (6) Don't walk off an elevator with alcohol in your hand  (7) Don't get an attitude with RAs...cooperation is key!  To me...these are all pretty logical, but you'd be surprised.

Being an RA is a struggle in itself, which some residents may not realize.  It stinks when you're outgoing and friends with a lot of residents, but then catch your these same residents in bad situations.  So, especially if you're not drinking, don't be in a room with alcohol because you're just putting yourself in a unfortunate situation.

School-less weekend

For once, I had tests behind me and a weekend of fun to look forward to.  After that crazy Accounting test (which I got a "B" on...not too shabby), I decided to take off the bookbag and RELAX!! My favorite five letter word :)  Friday afternoon I enjoyed a few hours at the gym, spent time with some of my old Capstone friends from last year, and chilled with some of my new friends in Columbia Hall.

Saturday...on limited sleep...I woke up at 7:30 am and helped give tours of Capstone for a few hours.  We gave tours to about 200 people!! It was awesome because us RMs got to show off Capstone and our wonderful tasting Gibbes Court.  After tours, I worked the desk for two hours and listened to the rap CD some of my friends burned me for my birthday.  Afterwards, I played spades - the joker, joker, deuce, deuce version...not "internet spades", as some of my friends call it.  (I guess that's kind of an inside joke).  Well, as usual my friend Terrence and I got beat by Corey and Faith...I don't know what it is, but I always get bad hands...no Aces...limited spades...not 2s or jokers...so sad.  So then my friend Ryan became my partner...and you won't believe it...WE WON!  Absolutely ridiculous...I about fell over in my seat.  On that note I called it a day, so as not to ruin our winning streak.  Then my friend Alan came over and we went with some of his friends to Scarowinds.  It was SOOOO scary and exciting!! Scarowinds is the halloween version of Carowinds in Charlotte.  I'd never heard of or been to this theme park until Saturday night.  I love the thrill of being scared and making other people jump out of their socks!  The roller coasters were awesome there, especially the one that goes backwards and forwards...and I can't wait to go back the last weekend of October!

Then Sunday...I treated my friend Joanne to a pedicure and manicure...and we went to the mall!  It was definitely a girlie afternoon full of fun.  I felt like it was well deserved...especially since we had both taken so many tests last week.

Well, Monday starts off the busy week...time to leave my incredible weekend and return to reality!
